Construction Updates

HPS Buildings & Grounds Letterhead

Hello Hamtramck Public Schools Community,

I'm reaching out from the Buildings and Grounds Department with some important updates regarding the new projects funded by ESSER Funds and their starting dates. While we're providing start dates for the projects below, please rest assured that we've been working closely with our construction partners and building administration/directors to ensure smooth progress this summer.

Here's a breakdown of the ongoing projects by school:

Hamtramck High School 11410 Charest

Window Replacements: Scheduled to commence on May 15th and continue throughout the summer.

  • Collaborating with building administration to facilitate an early start.
  • Summer school will proceed as planned.
  • Arrival of temporary fence on May 10, 2024.
  • Set-up of temporary fence to commence on May 10th.
  • Certain construction areas may have restricted access.

Dickinson East Elementary 3385 Norwalk

Window Replacements: Tentatively set to begin on the weekend of June 15th or Monday, June 17th.

  • School will be closed for the entire summer duration of the construction project.
  • Parking lots closed except for construction staff/staging.

Kosciuszko Middle School & Dickinson West Elementary 2333 Burger

HVAC Upgrades: Already underway after school hours and will continue through the summer.

Demo of Portable: Scheduled after school is out for summer, followed by repairs for the new transformer.

  • Both schools will remain closed throughout the summer during construction.
  • Parking lots closed except for construction staff/staging.


Holbrook Elementary 2361 Alice

HVAC Upgrades: Currently ongoing and will continue until school is out for summer and throughout the summer break. New transformer installed on April 30, 2024.

Kitchen addition: Work in progress.

  • School will be closed for the entire summer duration of the construction project.
  • Parking lots closed except for construction staff/staging.

Early Childhood Elementary 11680 McDougall

Boiler and Electrical Upgrades: Work continues through the school year and into summer.

  • Waiting DTE transformer delivery for switch over to new power.
  • Summer school sessions will proceed as scheduled.
